Briefing #225

this update does not exist and I was never here

Greetings!

This morning I received, in confidence, a private communication containing very positive news of progress by dynastic Elder principals.

While we were given additional details, WHA was instructed to not reveal them. As WHA always keeps confidences as a condition for further support, we will respect this wish.

I was going to simply post this as a comment, but on further reflection, I thought it best to publish it to our readership.

It’s hoped that positive updates will continue!

Earlier we predicted that 2026 was going to be a pivotal year; that forward progress would have to take place along a wide front of a very diverse set of transformational projects within the human experience – technological, political, financial, social. The information we received today would seem to validate that a particular ram has touched the wall, and this time it’s going to continue forward.

We hope so!

There are no significant crypto updates at this time, but all prior recent suggestions and observations are still valid at this time. There will be no going back. Adoption, regulatory clarity, crypto-based products and stablecoin payment rails are no longer theories. They are movements.

Thank you, again, for your continuing contributions to the discussion section.

More when possible!

    1. Exactly right. Which is why SORA needs to be resurrected. It was a political, not business move, to kill SORA — since that AI was about to enable every video ideator to do what Hollywood did at a fraction of the price.

  7. Every AI team I talk to hits the same wall — accountability.

They’ve shipped an agent. It’s live. It’s doing real work — reviewing loans, flagging fraud, writing reports, handling escalations.

Then compliance or legal shows up with one of these:

“What exactly did the agent do on that loan last Tuesday?”

“Can we show every customer decision it touched?”

“If it made a bad call, what would have stopped it?”

    And the room goes quiet.

Not because the engineers did anything wrong — but because the stack wasn’t designed for accountability.

Logs tell you what happened, not why.

Observability tools give you metrics, not guardrails.

LLM dashboards show usage, not governance.

We’re not missing a feature — we’re missing an entire layer.

Over the past few months, I’ve been building Vantage, a governance, observability, and control layer for enterprise AI.

It sits between AI runtime activity and real-world consequence — basically the “black box recorder” and “policy engine” for AI systems in production.

    It does three things:

    1. Observe – Every action, model call, and outcome goes into an immutable audit log. Real evidence, not just traces.

Example: A lending agent approves a loan. We capture the full event (input, model, decision path, output) and lock it down. No reconstruction later — just proof.

    2. Govern – Agents don’t just “run”; their actions are checked against policies in real time. Allow, block, or require human approval.

Example: Loan above risk threshold? Auto-paused for a human underwriter. No hacks, no missed approvals.

    3. Control – Every model call passes through a policy boundary.

Example: Agent tries to send PII to an external model? Blocked before it leaves your network.

All of this runs in Rust. Sub-millisecond governance. No tradeoff between performance and accountability.

    Currently shipping across four phases:

See Everything: full observability + audit logs

Connect Everything: multi-agent enforcement + traceability

Control Everything: policy lifecycle + approval queues

Deploy Everywhere: cloud, on-prem, or private setup

Backend is Rust + Redis + SQLx tuned for low latency (so teams can actually keep it on the hot path).

    Biggest learnings so far:

You can’t bolt on governance after the fact.

    Approval workflows decide enterprise deals.

“Human in the loop” is an architecture, not a checkbox.

    Latency is governance’s biggest enemy.

I’m looking for design partners — especially in financial services, healthcare, or any regulated workflow using AI agents in production or near-production.

    If your team is asking:

“Who authorized this agent action?” or

“How do we prove decisions were governed?”

…that’s the conversation I want to have.

Not a demo, not a pitch — just a working session about what governance actually looks like in practice.

DM me or drop a comment if your team is facing this problem and wants to shape what the next layer of AI infrastructure looks like.

TL;DR — Building Vantage: a drop-in governance + observability layer for enterprise AI agents.

    Fast, provable, controllable.

For the teams that need to show their work.

Euphoria is, in my view, a reflection of the very industry that made it. Tragic.

I myself have never suffered from any substance addiction. But I have encountered many who have, and all had the common denominator of being without a life goal that gave them the fulfillment strong enough to allow it to be the “high” in their life. So they substitute an artificial one that is a hidden trap disguised as a road to bliss.

A recent contact with a high school buddy of mine revealed that 40% of our graduating class was already dead. Half from substance abuse. The rest from cancer mostly.

Your health is your greatest wealth.

    1. Oh, this is a long and complicated matter. Yeah, a few steaks here and there would do a world of good. You are right, in that aiming the addiction at a dopaminergic goal, helps — but it is not surefire by any stretch. And many fall off the wagon — and it is really NOT their fault. The dice are loaded and crooked in this case. It’s genetic. Our clinic was absolutely full of anxiety brains, that after we got them off the usual drug cocktails, we strengthened their central synchrony — reducing their anxiety levels — which in turn eliminated the excess cravings reducing alcohol (and substances) to easily managed levels. It is all about calming the genetically anxious.

So, actual human brains fall into two major categories. Highly synchronous calm brains (high performers, Special Forces, etc) and anxiety brains. And between the two peaks, a modest hybrid bunch of brains. Civilization modified the pattern, by introducing all sorts of substances both to lower anxiety but also as prelude to sex and reproduction. Because substances lower the threshold for sex, society has lots of anxiety brains, because like rabbits, they procreated more than the calm sticks-in-the-mud.

Back when we were a bunch of wandering apes you had a breeding core surrounded by a bunch of guards at the perimeter. These perimeter guards had anxiety brains and jumped at rustle of leaves and crack of twig to alert for perimeter intrusion by predators. The perimeter folk also doubled up as the foragers, in particular for fermented berries or other alcohol content juices. Why? Because this stuff was, more or less safe to eat and/or drink.

Their whole brains were geared towards the finding of alcohol. Only, at most in the wild, it was pretty hard to actually get drunk — that was only occasional. At most, a buzz from time to time. Nature limited us to a one-shot equivalent on a daily basis. Hence the weird hormesis effect where, despite the naysayers, the Doctors and Puritans, those who have the occasional drink actually live longer.

Fast forward to the modern era, and liter — 1000 gram equivalents — are available for the asking. So a brain, sensitized to alcohol, suddenly has infinite supply. And the same circuits that reward for alcohol, reward for all the other substances. Amusingly, further complicating matters, anxiety brains are also, for the most part, the fun crowd too.

Is there any wonder that folks fall off the addiction cliff?

A new model called Mythos has managed to run together zero-day exploits and cross-ref into non-obvious but deep vulnerability of long-existing libraries. You might remember a movie called Sneakers where the team steals a black-box that can penetrate any system. It seem Mythos can, more or less, do the same.

    The 411:

In a post on our Frontier Red Team blog, we provide technical details for a subset of these vulnerabilities that have already been patched and, in some cases, the ways that Mythos Preview found to exploit them. It was able to identify nearly all of these vulnerabilities—and develop many related exploits—entirely autonomously, without any human steering. The following are three examples:

    • Mythos Preview found a 27-year-old vulnerability in OpenBSD—which has a reputation as one of the most security-hardened operating systems in the world and is used to run firewalls and other critical infrastructure. The vulnerability allowed an attacker to remotely crash any machine running the operating system just by connecting to it;
    • It also discovered a 16-year-old vulnerability in FFmpeg—which is used by innumerable pieces of software to encode and decode video—in a line of code that automated testing tools had hit five million times without ever catching the problem;
    • The model autonomously found and chained together several vulnerabilities in the Linux kernel—the software that runs most of the world’s servers—to allow an attacker to escalate from ordinary user access to complete control of the machine.

  30. Anthropic Goes To War With The Open Source Community

    TLDR

Anthropic recently stopped third-party applications from using their flat-rate subscription plans to process massive amounts of artificial intelligence data.

This is important because it sparked a huge backlash from developers who feel the company is stealing their ideas while shutting down the very community that helped popularize their technology.

    SUMMARY

Anthropic has changed the rules for how external applications interact with its artificial intelligence models.

The company restricted third-party tools like OpenClaw from using their subsidized monthly subscriptions.

Anthropic claims these external programs were unoptimized and cost the company too much money in computing power.

They now require developers to pay based on the exact amount of data they process.

Many users are furious because they believe Anthropic copied open-source features before locking out the developers who created them.

Critics argue the company is trying to force everyone to use its own official tools instead of community alternatives.

The creator of OpenClaw has since been hired by OpenAI to help improve their competing systems.

This controversy is hurting Anthropic’s reputation among some of its most dedicated supporters.

    KEY POINTS

    • Anthropic restricted third-party tools from using flat-rate monthly plans.
    • The company stated these programs cost too much money to operate efficiently.
    • Developers must now pay specifically for the exact amount of data they process.
    • Users accused Anthropic of copying open-source innovations before shutting them down.
    • The creator of OpenClaw was recently hired by rival company OpenAI.
    • The open-source community added new features like memory consolidation to stay competitive.
    • The situation is severely damaging Anthropic’s relationship with its most passionate fans.

    1. Normally I don’t call bullshit, but this time I must.

A human heart has a nice voltage on contraction, so the e-field of the heart is easily a couple meters. But inverse square says magnetometer (quantum), isn’t going to see anything 100 meters out and that is being generous. At altitude the increase in required sensitivity is between a million-fold and a billion-fold. You ain’t finding a heartbeat.

So this is all bull until proven otherwise. I guarantee the laws of physics do not allow the detection of a heartbeat at altitude over thousands of square miles. At least not by the means indicated in the article.

Another way of saying the same thing — maybe they can detect a heartbeat at altitude, but you aren’t detecting it by AI-enhanced SQID magnetometry. This is just a plausible cover story for those that don’t know physics.

And lastly, AI is being used to replace people — and it really shouldn’t be — instead of enhancing them. John C Wright’s ideas on this are spot on and provide a reasonable roadmap that avoids dystopia.

Every evening I have been indulging in creating my own home versions of common programming languages. Only 1 of 4 efforts is reaching industrial strength. As long as I run debugging thru the AI — carefully — with plenty of regression testing — I estimate that me, my equivalents and betters can produce complicated product that would have been a team of software engineers previously, at between 5x and 10x speed. Back-of-envelope, AI in software is 50-fold force multiplier. In fact, failure in the product is exactly where you would expect — like in encodings and complicated binaries that are usually dark art to begin with. All fixable right now with the right inputs to the training model.

What this does enable is a massive expansion of the Smart and Entrepreneurial fractions. Proper, judicious, use of the AI tech is a the equivalent of a 20-IQ point boost, functionally. Once we can overlay good security and some more common sense into the Agent harnesses, entrepreneurs can form small companies, with small, targeted teams to achieve what medium to large orgs would do. Doesn’t solve everything of course, and some results will require capital levels to actualize in reality that only large orgs can handle.

Having said that, when they killed Sora, it was clearly to save Hollywood — all the other reasons are rationalizations. Sora had achieved both photo-realism and actor-emulation. It needed fine-tuning but it worked — another generation of improvement and it would have been unstoppable. Sora meant that a small creative team can make a full, all-out movie without any of the hassles of actors and the whole accreted, ossified, infrastructure. One could, in theory with sufficient GPU power, completely remake Top Gun:Maverick — with superior, realistic, F-14 vs 5-th Gen action — without ever leaving the confines of the computer. Or resurrect any Hollywood star of the Golden Age and give us completely new movies with old favorites. Or redo Atlas Shrugged and bypass the cretinism that damaged the first version.

    1. Ah yes, Neil Stone, MD, PhD, that has actually, in point of practice, never really advanced the practice of medicine but criticizes those of us who have, nonstop, with all his credentials. Who the hell elected him the Guardian of Good Medicine? Despite Malone being a little sleazy, in the end, Malone did actually invent, in whole or in part, the whole field of mRNA/DNA-based vaccines. To his credit, he actually went public and said these “vaccines” were not ready for prime time during the pandemic.

Stone believes that anything that is not proven by “Class 1 evidence by a double-blind randomized trial” didn’t happen. It’s just hearsay. It’s anecdotal. Because he can’t “waste his time with foolish things”. This despite the replication crisis in medicine because patient are not interchangeable cogs, that most therapies don’t work, and lastly that hyper-variable response surfaces cannot be explored correctly by medicine’s simplistic double-blind randomized trials.

It reminds me when Yale published a big hit piece on me when I owned, briefly, a clinic in Virginia. The local equivalent of Dr. Stone waxed eloquent of the ‘quackery’, ‘scam’ and ‘snake oil’. Never mind the fact that I received a standing ovation at AutismOne in 2014 for having designed the first double-blind/open-label follow-thru trial of the therapy — 14 patients — with a 50% response rate to neurotypical (we got lucky, real-life its about 33%). Do I mention that the odds of this are near ZERO? The default autism reversion rate is 10% per decade thru age 20. Our trial was 5 weeks. Then there’s the clinic experience. Never mind that, published or not, if 1800 of 2400 kids – 3.5 to16 years in age, revert partially or fully, in real life, in 6 to 12 weeks, on the record with an open door policy, you should sit up, shut up and take notice. “Anecdotal” my tuckus! The Lancet and JAMA be damned.

However, it seems someone at Yale followed up on the piece and dug around. All of sudden, that hit piece, vanished. I never even complained or called Yale. I’m sure legal went ape-sh*t when a little fact-digging revealed the ‘quackery’ wasn’t. There is also a small chance that a Navy Captain, whose beautiful child was locked in moderate autism, which reversed fully under therapy, may have quietly taken it upon himself to knock some heads together at Yale. I am almost certain that he was also Navy Intelligence. (Navy Intelligence and Yale go waaay back.) His wife drops us a line every so often.

Oh, about that “open door policy”, back in the day at the Brain Treatment Center (BTC) in Newport Beach, CA. So, one day a major neurosurgeon from the Keck School of Medicine showed up. He came often, followed patients, and finally, roughly a month later, marched into our “control suite” conference room where we all lived the day job, sat down with “Nobody can fake outcomes for this long. Tell me exactly how this works and what you are doing.” We did. Became a life-long supporter to this day. He even arranged a neuroscience conference bringing in neuro people from far and wide.

The sad part, is that neuro-modulation is well-known as a modality. Every brain implant that controls epilepsy and every pace-maker that controls heart arrythmia, is based on the root principle. But somehow, if you pace the brain, from outside, with big figure-8 magnet (looks like Mickey Mouse’s ears), based on an EEG-calculated frequency, I’m the crazy one? (and the cast of hundreds that do this over the planet).

I regret I wasn’t more successful, but the mechanics are now known far and wide. In time, unless someone finds a different and successful cure, it will be standard of care.

One day we can talk about how the crazy management of BTC, thinking they’d be the Google of this, despite that being impossible (I told them, many times), they got in bed with a splinter of the PayPal Mafia and even had a dalliance with Peter Thiel’s group. I had been long gone by then, and it became the disaster I predicted.

No apology was issued by Dr. Stone to Dr. Thomas for his mistake. No correction was sent to his followers. He just silently deleted the evidence. The reality is the tetanus patient became a patient AFTER the event, not before. So that patient couldn’t have gotten tetanus from his “bad advice” because he wasn’t a patient at the time.

            1. Since we all didn’t die in a strategic exchange yesterday night, we continue with regularly scheduled programming:

We are in what Carroll Quigley called an Age of Confusion.

And pedantic, dogmatic a-holes are everywhere. And the pretentious arrogance displayed, by folks who should know better, is extraordinary. Even more importantly, nobody actually gives a damn whether Neil Stone accepts the proposition on the table. Ultimately, he moves with the crowd, which he uses as his refuge of last resort, the “peer review”. Peer review is s**t. It’s consensus management. Any claim to due diligence has collapsed in the replication crisis, the rubber stamping, the medical publishing industrial complex and the absurd behavior of the Journals during the covid pandemic. As I often say, it looks like medical science, it feels like medical science, but it isn’t medical science. In the present era, it is just — mostly — a dressed up narrative.

I distinctly remember one encounter back in Newport Beach where someone — who literally should have know better — asked if the alpha brain wave had been established by double-blind randomized trial.

When it was recounted to me, I died laughing. The alpha wave is like ‘height’. It’s a measured quantity by Fast Fourier Transform of EEG time series. It simply is. In point of fact, the first measurement of an alpha wave belongs to Tesla. It’s even more stupid when you realize the question has a non-commensurable aspect. In blatant English, it would be like asking “Is the apple windy?”

I sometimes joke that I am the last of the Renaissance men while possibly being the first of their return. Unfortunately, in practice, I find the former true rather than the latter, every time I interact with any Establishment.

Back when I was instructed, Appeal to Authority was right after non-sequitur at the top of the list of logical fallacies. And just yesterday I had to hear about how cholesterol is a risk factor for heart attacks and strokes. Of course, if you check, you’d discover that we have infinitely more data about inflammation and homocysteine than we ever did about cholesterol. And adding insult to injury, despite an orgy of statin consumption, the actual in-the-clinic rate of heart attacks and strokes has barely budged. Makes you wonder…

And if you are on a statin, protect your heart with a few mg of CoQ10 every day. After all, the Canadian FDA felt that statins depleting the heart of CoQ10 and causing heart attacks had enough evidence to put it in the gov-mandated insert. Funny warning for a drug that is supposed to prevent heart attacks... but what do I know…

  40. Meanwhile, Amazon continues its suicide.

Another round of layoffs planned for May.

Because the criteria of layoffs is truly arbitrary, truly non-objective, the truly competent are being tossed out with those that should be laid off as surplus to present requirements. Jassy is also doing a death by a thousand cuts and spending like a drunken sailor on AI because some idiot told him that “coding is a solved problem” with AI so he can toss many of his coders to the curb.

I’ve never heard anything as stupid as this. In a properly functioning organization, with proper planning, coding is not a bottleneck. And, more importantly, without the institutional knowledge of competent, long-term employees, bad, bad things WILL happen. AI is NOT the substitute folks are thinking it is.

Scale introduces many, many issues in systems design. After the initial growing pains, AWS became remarkably reliable. I easily set up in one project, a 3 AWS datacenter two-continent failover system, with extra nodes and automatic spin-ups. It would literally take a two-continent catastrophe to pull it all down. The people that made that possible at Amazon are being systematically being crushed and out. Jassy is a disaster — he’s forgotten his roots.

AWS will not reach anywhere near the growth Jassy is projecting.

While I hated the last two rounds, I despise this one. It’s all just politics. I saw an L8 PXT partner come out of one of the meetings with a horrored expression on their face. When I asked one of the L6s that was in the meeting, they said really good performers are being impacted and it was all just politics. L8 choosing people who cozy up to them to stay while people that did the right thing were let go. They apparently even openly discussed some bs reasoning.

This is a company that has internal cancer. Whether we are entering early phases or late phases, revenue will tell over the next few years…

Anthropic raised $8 billion. Their best product costs $20/month. Let’s do the math.

To break even they’d need 33 million paying subscribers at full price with zero costs. (We’ll ignore Enterprise contracts for the moment.)

They have nowhere near that. Neither does OpenAI. Neither does Google with Gemini.

In fact, sources say that the price is subsidized/discounted by 90% . Eg. the price should be $200/mo.

Every major AI company is currently paying to use their product and hoping to get you hooked.

At some point, the music stops. What happens to everything built on top of these APIs when it does?

I’ll tell you. They become regulated like utilities. As they should be.

Contrary to all pertinent opinion, walking away, IS an option.

The deeper problem is that Trump is exhausted, and is being lied to across the board. At 2hrs sleep per night he is heading into stroke or heart attack territory.

This means the situation is intractable.

    So, the only options available:

    • 25th Am his ass. This too will stop everything cold.
    • We walk away.
    • Iran can only avoid losing, which isn’t the same as winning. Folding, rather than sticking to its fixed mindset, ends this. It’s not like anyone from the original ruling class is alive. So exactly why continue? Other than Shia intolerance?

You will not accrue the alleged benefits, it will be used to enforce a draconian universe which will collapse of its own weight and the survivors will never be free of this short of a civilizational collapse back to the 1700’s.
